Congrats to Kyler Murray who was awarded a contract extension worth $230.5 million over 5 years from the Arizona Cardinals.
This places him right behind Aaron Rodgers as the second-highest paid QB in the league, making $46.1 million per year.
Two interesting things of note:
1. I can’t be certain, but the contract negotiations almost had to be modeled after what Deshaun Watson just got paid by the Browns. Despite an alarming rap sheet of accusations and ongoing uncertainty surrounding his 2022 status, the Browns did what they do and made a snap decision giving Watson $46 million/year. Kyler just signed for $46.1 million, which I suspect is no coincidence, and he’s a guarantee to NOT start the season serving a suspension for sexual assault.
2. Deshaun Watson makes more than Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. Let that sink in.
